My career goal is to become a nurse because I really want to help coordinate the patient care performed by other members of a health care team. Becoming a nurse is also a big part of my long term goal because I want to focus on treating illness to improve the quality of life in the United States. Nurse is a person that is trained to care for the sick or infirm, especially in a hospital. I’m interested because there are thousands of patients dying every day, I really want to take this opportunity to become a nurse, and save peoples live around the world. In this project, I will be covering the background of my career, the requirements to obtain the career, the job position, and the job reflection.
Nursing has been around in the United States around since the beginning. It has drastically evolved over the course of history. 300 A.D, it was during this time that the Empire sought to place a hospital within every town under its rule. There were many nurses during that time that assisted in in-patient medical care within the hospitals. Florence Nightingale is the most famous nurse in history, She is known for her efforts to reform the British military health system. She is the founder of modern nursing and came to prominence while serving as a manger of nurses in the Crimean war, she organized the tending to wounded soldiers.
The requirement to become a nurse is to have a diploma in nursing. Associate Degree In Nursing (AND) is a two-year degree offered by community colleges and hospitals-based schools of nursing. You would also need Bachelor of Science In Nursing (BS/BSN) is a four-year degree offered at colleges and universities. Saint Xavier College offers the best education for nursing because they promote a lifelong learning as integral to the professing nursing role and they encourage students to become lifelong learners. They encourages the students to meet a changing and challenging healthcare environment with education and make a difference in the lives of million.
The daily duties of a nurse often work in hospitals or outpatient facilities. They provide care to patients by administering medications, managing lines, observing and monitoring the patients’ conditions, and maintaining records with the doctors. The average rate for a Registered Nurse (RN) is $26.69 per hour. The hourly rate is $20.55-$37.98. The salary of a registered nurse is $66,220 in the United States.
Some of the challenge about having this career is that you have to know you patients by their diagnoses and their room number rather than their names. You also have to know the etiology, classification, dosage, side effects, contraindications, and compatibility for 18,000 different medications. The positive thing about this career is you get job opportunities in every state of the United States and to work in the exciting world of healthcare. Working as a nurse in Chicago, you get paid from $5,293-$7,197 a month. It has to be requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. A college graduate would stand a chance of getting a job as a nurse in Chicago.
